Librarian II
Job Description
The Wead Library is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Librarian II. The library is an active community center serving a vibrant, rural and school community.
The ideal candidate will be a community leader- building relationships with community groups. Candidates should feel comfortable working with families and initiating and implementing programs for children, adolescents, adults and families.
Responsibilities:
Duties for the Librarian II include, but are not limited to the following: develops and publicizes library public programs, develops partnerships with community organizations/agencies to increase use of library resources and services, performs cataloging and classification of library resources, coordinates book displays, provides reference and reader assistance, manages the library’s collection, assists in the development of grants and new library services.
Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or a Master’s of Science in Information Science (MSIS) from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices and two years of full-time paid (or the equivalent part-time) professional library experience subsequent to either degree listed above.
Special Requirements:
Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate at time of application. Possession of the certificate at time of appointment. Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
Compensation:
The position offers a hiring salary between $40,000-60,000 commensurate with experience and benefits.

Appointment will be provisional pending a Civil Service Examination currently announced. Candidates must also apply for the Librarian II Civil Service Exam #60-018180 (open competitive) and/or for current employees who qualify promotionally, Exam #70-008410, no later than 1/17/2025, directly with the Franklin County Personnel/Civil Service Office, 355 W. Main Street, Suite 316-A, Malone, NY 12953. Successful candidates must be reachable on the resulting Librarian II list with Franklin County.
In addition to the Civil Service Examination application, please forward your cover letter, resume, 3 letters of reference, Franklin County employment application and copy of professional certificate to Personnel Committee, Wead Library, 64 Elm St. Malone NY 12953.
